I see this image as a good example of graphic design for obvious reasons: it leads by example. This poster shows the components of design not as a list, but examples of what to look for. The words emphasis and color both draw attention to themselves in ways their elements should, and the word texture is filled with, well, texture. This probably started as an educational poster, perhaps done by a professor or someone else in a teaching position, but there are so many versions on Google now it's hard to tell which is the original. The audience, clearly, is anyone curious about design.
How it was made:
- Planning. The designer picked their topic, assembled the elements they wanted to use, and picked out a grid to organize it on.
- Refining. The grid was adjusted at an angle, words arranged and rearranged until everything fit neatly inside the margins without feeling crowded.
- Touchups. Texture, text effects, color, and shape alterations were added. Final tweaks to spacing and sizes were done until the whole piece looked properly complete.
